Bleeding Heart

Bleeding Hearts are aptly named for their plump heart shaped flowers which appear to "bleed" as the inner small pedals of the flower show beneath the larger heart shaped pedals. Keep an eye our for hummingbirds when you see this flower as they are attracted to the bright flowers as are bees and butterflies. Bleeding hearts are often found in clusters in moist woods and along stream banks April through May.
