Great Smoky Mountain Wildflowers in National Park

Birdfoot Violet is the one violet in the park which does not have heart shaped leaves. Instead this violet sports divided leaves which roughly are reminiscent of a bird’s foot and hence the name. This plant can be as small as four inches or as tall as ten inches and often produces up to 30 flowers in a blooming season. Look for this plant March through May along Cooper Road Trail or Rich Mountain Road.
