Great Smoky Mountains National Park has 500,000 acres
of beautiful meadows, deep forests, hiking trails,
campgrounds, waterfalls, wildflowers, and wildlife.
Many of them are in western North Carolina providing
public hiking, fly-fishing, mountain bike trails,
climbing, picnic areas and horse trail in places like
Cataloochee. Towns like Maggie Valley, Bryson City,
Waynesville and Franklin provide services to the Smoky
Mountain traveler. Available services include cabin
and other vacation rentals, retreats, and shopping.
Shopping includes arcades, museums, artists, gifts,
a folk art center, and country crafts. Chambers of
Commerce and visitors centers in these towns may be
contacted for detailed travel information. When travelers
become interested in moving to the Smokies, real estate
