The
Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Cades Cove...the most popular
site-seeing activities for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Smokies visitors.
The most popular of our national parks, the Great Smoky Mountains
attract nearly 10 million visitors yearly. They come hungry for the
hypnotic beauty these blue-misted mountains provide. And despite the
millions of visitors, one can find quiet and solace here. The less-frequented
hiking trails and high peaks often escape the traffic you'll find
in the most popular spots like Cades Cove, Little River, and Newfound
Gap Road. For example, one can hike the Appalachian Trail, which tracks
for 70 miles through Tennessee and North Carolina Smoky Mountains.
In addition, Cades Cove, most times very busy with motor vehicles,
is closed to such traffic for biking for certain periods during the
week. Hikes to waterfalls are plentiful and easily accessible from
the main roads. Fly fishing streams abound and the brook*, brown,
and rainbow trout are abundant.
Note: The brook trout is protected in the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park and must be released if caught.
